Senate Bill 1505: Environmental Performance Standards for Hydrogen Fuel
Key industry stakeholders, government agencies, and environmental advocates alike generally agree that Hydrogen will be one component of a suite of technologies that will help achieve California’s climate change goals in the transportation sector. Senate Bill 1505 (co-authored by Energy Independence Now and the Union of Concerned Scientists) was signed into law by Governor Schwarzenegger on September 30, 2006 to ensure the potential enormous environmental benefits that hydrogen can offer, by requiring the fuel to be produced from renewable sources.i Specifically, SB 1505 states that at least 33% of hydrogen produced in California, in the aggregate, is produced from renewables. At the same time, the bill was written in such a way that it allows the hydrogen industry to grow in an economical manner. For more information:
